Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. One need not idealize the American party conventions of decades past to acknowledge that this year's Republican National Convention was an unprecedented spectacle of reaction and backwardness. In a devastating condemnation of the Israeli government and its imperialist backers, the court ruled that Israel's occupation of Palestine is illegal, ordering all countries to cease enabling it. In their unstinting support for Biden, Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez are being exposed as nothing more than propagandists for imperialism. In all of its coverage, the corporate media seeks to conceal from the public the scale and depth of political reaction in the US for fear of social revolution. Two system failures impacting Microsoft-based computers shut down airports, trains, banks, hospitals, hotels and other critical infrastructure around the world on Friday. More than 33,000 machinists working at Boeing's facilities in Washington and Oregon packed a Major League Baseball on Wednesday to vote by 99.9 percent to strike when their contract expires September 12. For filmmaking to portray the barbarism of fascism in all its aspects therefore retains its burning relevance and necessity. A new study in The Lancet demonstrates that face coverings dramatically reduce the load of SARS-CoV-2 in exhaled breath from infected persons. The reductions reached as high as 98 percent, with variations according to the type of face covering worn. A meeting of the Third Plenum of the CCP Central Committee advocated tighter social and ideological controls. Barely mentioned in the media commentary that erupted around Dutton's proposal is the potential of a nuclear power industry to provide a pathway for the construction of nuclear weapons. The union leadership did not consult with members prior to ending industrial action and then held meetings blocking any discussion on their decision. "What's happening in Gaza is part of a growing world war. The western countries, including Australia, are all complicit in the [Gaza] genocide." The university's new policy mandates that members of the public outside the university will only be allowed to engage in demonstrations if they have prior approval from management. NATO boasted, at this month's Washington war summit, that with the recent addition of Sweden and Finland, it now includes "all Arctic nations"—except Russia. The new budget bolsters spending on the state's repressive powers at home and abroad and the working class will be made to pay for it. The International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) demands the immediate reinstatement of the three Columbia University administrators removed from their positions in late June on bogus charges of antisemitism. South Korea: Strike at Samsung Electronics enters second week; Indian railway workers demonstrate against new national pension scheme; Australia: Ramsay Health Care nurses in New South Wales protest over workloads and pay Lammy personifies the venal, right-wing warmongers that make up Sir Keir Starmer's government. Any claim that Labour will not rubber stamp the takeover is a lie. Chancellor Rachel Reeves has made clear Labour's top priority is to make Britain a "safe haven" for investors and her and Starmer's repeated praise for Margaret Thatcher makes clear the government will enforce corporate interests against the working class with an iron fist.
