Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The Trump administration is reclassifying tens if not hundreds of thousands of federal workers as "at-will" employees. The maneuver is not only an attack on workers' protections and due process rights but a step toward establishing a presidential dictatorship. Opposition to the deal, with sub-inflation wage increases and no job guarantees against AI, must be organized into of a rank-and-file rebellion that overrides the bureaucratic sabotage and enforces the will of the membership. The Trump administration's attempt to pull the plug on the Cuban economy is aimed at carrying through the nearly seven decades of efforts to overthrow the Castroite government installed by the 1959 Cuban Revolution. Trump's plan to shutter the Kennedy Center for two years, amid ICE repression and gaudy "America250" spectacles, exposes the deepening assault on culture and democratic rights. If any further proof were needed that the phrases "freedom" and "human rights" in German foreign policy are nothing more than propaganda, it was provided by Chancellor Friedrich Merz's trip to the reactionary Gulf monarchies of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Looking south from Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, where Nurrie, Jr. froze to death, there is visible a $44 million hotel development opened in 2021, a $94 million 8th District Courthouse opened in 2023, cranes building a $515 million arena and parking garage, and heavy machinery preparing a site for a planned $100 million county administration building and parking garage. Their entry underscores both the breadth of opposition to Kaiser's demands and the growing recognition among workers that their fight is part of a broader struggle against inequality and exploitation. The strike coincides with a growing wave of working class resistance, including a strike authorization vote last month by 35,000 Los Angeles educators. Liam and his family face imminent deportation even though they are currently applying for asylum and have not broken any laws. The Instagram post included a graphic depicting the assassination of Alex Pretti with the text "Only Traitors Help Invaders." The visit has the character of a provocation against the population, aimed at signalling Labor's support for imperialist war and its commitment to suppressing mass opposition. President Donald Trump incited his fascist political base late Thursday by sharing a video on Truth Social that ended with a blatantly racist depiction of Barack and Michelle Obama as apes in the jungle. More than 1,000 students at the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (PCEP) campus staged a walkout on Wednesday morning against ICE. Nearly 2,000 educators are working under an expired contract, confronting a district that has weaponized a manufactured fiscal crisis to impose permanent austerity. Canada's unions have responded to the developments in Minneapolis and calls for a general strike with either total silence or by issuing hollow statements of "solidarity." The speeches and political profile of the participants revealed the fundamental message: the Turkish ruling class and its imperialist allies could better defend their interests through a government established under the leadership of the CHP. The school year opens with educators in Australia confronting chronic underfunding, staff shortages, impossible workloads and rising levels of violence and distress, amid global militarism and attacks on democratic rights. India: Gig workers hold one-day nationwide protests; Punjab state power workers oppose privatisation; Bangladesh: Chittagong Port workers strike against new terminal leasing; Sri Lankan doctors continue action; Malaysia: Lumileds factory workers fight sackings and deportations; Australia: CSL pharmaceutical factory workers strike for higher pay. ABP Foods intends to close its retail meat packing operation in Dungannon in the North of Ireland, threatening 338 workers with the sack. Rank and file committees are needed across ABP's operations in response. The vote to extend strike action until August 2026 shows the determination of resident doctors to defy Labour's Health Secretary Wes Streeting, who has spewed vitriol including the accusation they are "holding the country to ransom."
