After 40 years of suppression of the class struggle, following the defeats imposed in the 1980s, the working class in the United States is beginning to move again. The votes over the past five days demonstrate that the Democratic Party functions not as an opposition but as an enabler of the Trump administration. Two workers employed as underground guides at the museum gave interviews. Both had formerly worked as miners at the UK's last remaining deep coal mine, Kellingley Colliery, before it was closed in 2015. The ICE agency is infamous around the world for its politically-driven executions of US citizens in Minneapolis and other cities illegally occupied by forces loyal to Trump. Unifor Local 88 Plant Chair Mike Van Boekel recently revealed that discussions have been held with General Motors management on producing military vehicles at the idled CAMI auto assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. Turkish government officials have voiced their growing concerns and made efforts to establish diplomatic relations between Washington and Tehran. In the New Year, Washington has attempted to reassert its hegemony over the entire Latin American region, which includes its Mexican neighbor. Over 200 courses have been flagged or canceled following amendments to A&M's "Civil Rights Protection" policies to prohibit "race and gender ideology." Plato is among the authors banned from classrooms as a result of the new policies. At a rally in New York's Foley Square, hundreds of nurses recognized the connection between the defense of healthcare and the defense of immigrants' rights. A 71-year-old subcontracted worker was killed at a New Jersey chemical plant, as official investigations were announced and fundamental questions about workplace safety and accountability remain unanswered. The Labor government's claims to have begun to resolve the cost-of-living crisis have been shattered. The SEP has consistently explained the brutal attack near the University of Moratuwa was not an isolated street brawl, but a politically driven attempt to prevent it from organising among university workers and students. Argentinian airport workers announce major strike action as workers in northern Mexico's "maquiladora" plants occupy factories in response to propose mass layoffs.
