Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The awarding of Musk's pay package is, at the same time, a declaration of intent by the ruling class to massively impoverish the working class through layoffs, austerity and the destruction of social programs. As the longest government shutdown in US history continued, Trump's Justice Department appealed to the highest court to block an order to resume food stamps. WSWS reporters visited food banks and spoke with people seeking food assistance after the government reduced or cut their SNAP benefits this week. IMF says the enormous costs of European rearmament, the consequences of the international trade war and demands made by banks and companies for increased profits are incompatible with the welfare state. The RMT's attempt to present the settlement ending the dispute as achieving the aims London Underground train drivers, engineers, signalling and station staff were fighting for is based on distortions and evasions over the central demands for a pay rise and a shorter working week. The trillions hoarded by the billionaires must be expropriated and used to meet social needs: secure, well-paid jobs for all, healthcare, housing, education, and the eradication of hunger and poverty. Nothing could more clearly expose the deeply reactionary role of Sanders and his pseudo-left supporters than their attempt to divert the growing opposition of the working class to Donald Trump and the corporate oligarchy along nationalist lines. The militarized operation is the latest and most brazen offensive in the Trump administration's escalating war on the working class in the Boston area. ICE prevented workers from retrieving documents like work permits from their lockers, but instead "just took them." The letter, which provocatively clashed with Lula's federal government, represents a new intervention in Brazil's internal affairs. The MAS, long regarded in pseudo-left circles as a flagship of the Pink Tide and "21st century socialism," suffered a crushing defeat. The Trump administration's advocate in the Supreme Court revealed the essential role of "reciprocal tariffs." The construction of nuclear-powered submarines is a highly provocative move as it requires the possession of weapons-grade, highly enriched uranium needed to fuel its nuclear reactor. As resident doctors prepare to strike, NHS FightBack is holding an online Zoom meeting on November 18 "Defeat Starmer-Streeting budget cuts and privatisation! For a united fightback by NHS workers!" To encourage the widest discussion the World Socialist Web Site is publishing an interview with a resident doctor about the issues posed in the dispute. It is believed that the strike that saw picket lines in the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metro region was the largest strike of doctors and advanced practice providers in the United States. Despite calls to shut it down, Israel's High Court refused to close Sde Teiman in September 2024. Instead, the public uproar centres on the fact that the abuse was made public in the first place and by no less a person than Israel's Chief Military Advocate. A civil war is raging in the film, television and music fields between artists opposed to the mass murder in Gaza, as well as Trump's fascist policies, and the upper echelons of studio executives and owners. Prime Minister Mark Carney has made it clear his Liberal government views the destruction of Canada Post in its current form as a testing ground for the attacks that the ruling class plans to mount against all workers. Political arrests, operations targeting journalists, and growing attacks on press freedom are steps taken by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's government to use the judiciary to build an authoritarian regime. Besides the temporary cordoning off of one section of the mine, "no other restrictions" have been imposed. The safety regulator is leaving the decision to reopen and resume the use of explosives entirely in the hands of the company. Thousands of National Health Mission (NHM) workers held a three-day statewide strike in Assam on Monday demanding permanent jobs and equal pay for equal work. The firefighters union has shut down its limited one-hour strikes as the unions seek to contain the explosive movement of the working class expressed in the October 23 "mega-strike."
