Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. On Thanksgiving Day 2024, the broad mass of the population has precious little to be thankful for. The crushing weight of inflated costs for all necessities—housing, food, healthcare, childcare, transport—continues to weigh on working class families. But there is an entirely different reality in the environs of the rich and the super-rich. Bhattacharya's appointment is a clear signal that the ruling class aims to demolish the last remnants of public health still standing after five years of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Workers reported being homeless, often sleeping at the airport or staying with coworkers. The IG Metall trade union has made clear it will support the planned attacks—provided, as with the cutbacks of recent decades, plant closures and compulsory redundancies are ruled out. The scrapping of Best Practice Industry Conditions in Queensland was enabled by the federal Labor government's action in August, placing the construction division of the CFMEU into administration. For 14 years, successive governments, state agencies, the judicial system and the union bureaucracy have worked to prevent anyone being brought to justice for the avoidable deaths of 29 workers in Pike River Coal's underground mine. The baseless accusation of antisemitism promoted by Trudeau and the political establishment is rich coming from a ruling class that is providing massive military and financial support to Ukraine's government and state, which are rife with the political descendants of the Ukrainian fascist and Nazi accomplice Stepan Bandera.
