With less than two months remaining in his term, US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use US long-range ATACMS missiles to strike deep inside Russia, crossing a "red line" that Russian President Vladimir Putin said could lead to direct war between Russia and NATO. The re-election of Donald Trump signifies the violent realignment of American politics with its underlying social reality: a society dominated by staggering inequality and ruled by a capitalist oligarchy. The WSWS spoke with Harvard student Bilal Irfan, who has been involved with the non-profit group FAJR Scientific, to assist in bringing aid to Gaza and conducting medical research in the Israeli offensive. A look at the background of those arrested, all of whom are between 20 and 30 years old, reveals they are not an isolated phenomenon, but have emerged from established neo-fascist structures developed over a long period of time. The new contract in the metal and electrical industries, which IG Metall agreed to without a workplace vote and despite the declared opposition of many members, marks the beginning of a new stage in the struggle against the union apparatus. This legislation is yet another attempt to rescue the corporate political elite in the face of deepening popular disaffection with the entire ruling class program of austerity and war. Police denied that the bombing of a restaurant in Melbourne had anything to do with the pro-Palestinian statements of its owners, even though one of the accused told them the motive was "the conflict overseas between Palestine and Israel." The issue of the restitution of such artefacts as the token 26 statues to the Republic of Benin, so long rejected by the colonial powers, has now become entangled in broader geopolitical conflicts, with a few institutions now repatriating--or offering to repatriate—a handful as a public relations exercise.
