Washington sends Israel more city-busting bombs to level Rafah
 Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. Coming after a series of high-level US-Israeli meetings to plan Israel's offensive on Rafah, Washington is sending a clear message that it is giving Israel a green light to level the city, where over 1 million refugees are sheltering. The stepped-up attack on jobs takes place as newly released government data showed profits rose $133.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023 for an annualized rate of $3.4 trillion, the highest ever. Workers at the Ford Rouge complex speak out on job cuts and the impact on workers' lives. Deere's Waterloo Works complex was the center of rank-and-file opposition to the UAW's sellout of the 2021 strike. The oligarchic and war-mongering character of the Biden administration and the Democratic Party was on full display Thursday evening as former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton joined Joe Biden for a campaign fundraising event at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. At its meeting Thursday morning, the University of Michigan Board of Regents announced its rejection of demands by students that the university divest from companies linked to Israel and its genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza. We encourage youth, students and workers to attend the events which will provide the international socialist revolutionary program necessary to end the genocide of Palestinians by the Israeli state and its imperialist backers. In September 2023, the Child Poverty Action Group reported that 4.2 million children nationwide were growing up in poverty—equivalent to nine children in an average classroom of 30. Middleton's illness alongside that of the king's has underscored a sense of crisis for Britain's slimmed-down monarchy following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. What GDL union leader Claus Weselsky grandiosely describes as a reduction in train drivers' working hours, with full wages maintained, is in fact the opposite: a reduction in real wages and an open-ended "working time corridor" leading to longer working hours and lower pay. While fawned on by upper middle class layers, Varoufakis, a political scoundrel and opportunist of the first order, was culpable for one of the most significant betrayals of the working class this century. With its full-throated endorsement of Bill 21, Quebec's Court of Appeal has lent a veneer of legality to the chauvinist campaign being whipped up by all factions of the political establishment and spearheaded by the Quebec nationalist right and far-right. Whatever we got, and it was nowhere near enough, we got by ourselves. No thanks at all to the bureaucratic industrial police force known as the United Steelworkers. Labor's Accord report insisted on a corporate transformation of tertiary education to satisfy the employment and research demands of big business and the plans for war. Pen America United said in a statement on Wednesday that PEN America management has attempted to include contractual language in negotiations that limits workers' freedom of speech. New figures from Mapping Police Violence show that cops in the United States have already killed at least 256 people this year. South Korea: Seoul bus drivers strike for pay rise; Pakistan: Balochistan mine workers oppose unsafe conditions; Bangladeshi tea garden workers protest reduced festival allowance; Australia: Tasmanian ambulance workers take action over state's health crisis. There is nothing "historic" or "groundbreaking" about this proposed contract, which includes a no-strike clause and amounts to crumbs offered up by the university.
