Two new titles from Mehring Books in the fight against racialist politics

Dear subscriber, Mehring Books is very pleased to announce the publication of two new pamphlets. Marxism vs. Critical Race Theory includes an author's introduction and three essays by World Socialist Web Site writer Tom Carter. The second new publication is Marcus Garvey and the Reactionary Logic of Racialist Politics, by Lawrence Porter. The two pamphlets together continue the initiative of the WSWS in combating the pernicious anti-working class position of the New York Times' 1619 Project and the contemporary purveyors of divisive racialist politics. Marxism vs. Critical Race Theory By Tom Carter The main essay in this pamphlet counterposes the history and traditions of Marxism to the reactionary politics of racialism and nationalism embodied in Critical Race Theory—a school of academia combining postmodernism and subjective idealist philosophy with historical revisionism, racial sectarianism, and an orientation to the Democratic Party.   In addition to the main essay, there are two supplementary essays critiquing the New York Times embracing the British monarchy and Ukrainian nationalism. Pamphlet Marcus Garvey and the Reactionary Logic of Racialist Politics By Lawrence Porter Porter demolishes the hagiographic view of Marcus Garvey promoted by the current purveyors of racialist politics, Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and others, who paint Marcus Garvey "as a progressive figure," while he in fact was dedicated to the development and maintenance of a black bourgeoisie.   This essay exposes the contemporary advocates of black nationalism who themselves are profiting from the promotion of a reactionary and divisive ideology. Pamphlet The New York Times' 1619 Project and the Racialist Falsification of History David North and Thomas Mackaman, editors The only comprehensive left-wing critique of the 1619 Project, featuring essays and interviews with prominent scholars of American history and writers for the World Socialist Web Site. This volume refutes the arguments of Nikole Hannah-Jones and the New York Times, who seek to "reframe" American history as a "narrative" that eviscerates the democratic content of the American Revolution and the Civil War, and that denigrates the role of the Enlightenment and of Abraham Lincoln.
