The recent series of job actions on the West Coast, in defiance of a union-backed "no strike pledge," has prompted the ruling class to develop open legal repression against workers as the next line of defense. In interviews and comments with the WSWS, dockworkers expressed anger of the proposed tentative agreement and denounced the invovlement of the Biden adminstration. There is no political alternative representing the interests of workers, setting up the widely hated ND for another four years in office. With international financial institutions paying close attention, the country's Labour-led government is carrying out a far-reaching assault on jobs and living standards. In the meeting, CWU leader Dave Ward stated repeatedly that he was not "apologising" as he justified the surrender terms offered to Royal Mail, skirting over what he described as "difficult elements" and pleading poverty on behalf of the company. What was a national dispute of 50,000 workers at 150 universities has been splintered by the UCU bureaucracy into a marking boycott and several smaller, isolated strikes.
