As 2025 draws to a close, the world enters 2026 amid an accelerating global crisis.
In the United States, the Trump administration is spearheading a global descent into war and dictatorship. Trump heads a government of gangsters, fascists, and oligarchs. Immigrant roundups, the criminalization of opposition, and preparations for imperialist war abroad are inseparable from the construction of authoritarian rule at home.
Across Europe, the ruling classes are openly preparing for war with Russia. Germany is rearming while whitewashing the crimes of the Third Reich; Britain and France are pouring billions into military escalation. In the Middle East, the genocide in Gaza continues with the backing of every imperialist power.
This war drive abroad is inseparable from a war on the working class at home: mass layoffs, the destruction of social programs, and staggering inequality. Capitalism has no solution to its crisis except repression and war.
At the same time, resistance is growing. Millions have protested dictatorship, genocide, and austerity—from mass demonstrations in the US and Europe to struggles across Africa and Asia.
The World Socialist Web Site plays a decisive role in these struggles. It provides daily analysis grounded in Marxism, intervenes directly in workers' battles against layoffs and exploitation, and fights to arm workers and youth with a revolutionary program that targets the root of the crisis: capitalism itself.
