The capitalist ruling class is deploying AI to intensify exploitation, increase profits, surveil populations and prepare new wars. But this does not arise from any inherent danger in the technology itself. Technology is never neutral: its social role is determined by the class that wields it.
AI embodies centuries of human intellectual labor, including in the domains of logic, mathematics, engineering, language, and scientific practice. The question is whose interests it serves.
The socialist perspective behind Socialism AI demystifies technology. What is conventionally labeled "artificial intelligence" is more accurately understood as "augmented" human intelligence: the automation and extension of human thought processes. Properly harnessed and freed from capitalist control, this technology can shorten the working day, broaden access to culture and science, and elevate the intellectual life of billions.
Socialism AI is not a replacement for revolutionary leadership or political organization. Rather, its role is to aid the conscious intervention of the working class, overcoming the barriers of distance, language, specialization and time. Workers in Detroit, teachers in London, students in São Paulo, nurses in Johannesburg, young intellectuals in Mumbai, and countless others will pose questions about theory, history, economics, philosophy and politics—and receive answers grounded not in the lies of the ruling class but in the scientific method of historical materialism and in the accumulated strategic experience of the international working class.
The experiences of exploitation, war and crisis can radicalize millions, but without a conscious, historically informed perspective, they can also produce confusion, disorientation and despair. The working class requires a memory of its own struggle, a theory that explains its position in society and a program that links immediate demands to the conquest of power.
Socialism AI will serve as a powerful instrument for daily political orientation and education, a modern counterpart—at a higher technological level—to the Enlightenment's Encyclopedia, Lenin's Iskra, and the WSWS itself.
