Dear reader, Last week, the World Socialist Web Site and the Socialist Equality Party organized a powerful rally in Washington D.C. against the Gaza genocide and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress.  The demonstration held by the WSWS was completely unique. Unlike the various middle-class pseudo-left groups, our rally rejected appeals to the Democratic Party, instead advancing a clear socialist program and perspective upon which opposition to the genocide has to be based. On behalf of US imperialism, it is attempting to escalate war throughout the Middle East, with attacks on Lebanon and the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. The speeches at the WSWS' and SEP's July 24 rally not only indicted Netanyahu for the genocide; they also explained the connection between the horrors in Gaza and the broader imperialist war of which it is a part.  The WSWS and the SEP put forward a strategy oriented to the working class. As WSWS International Editorial Board Chairman David North explained: "The building of an antiwar movement requires the mobilization of the working class as an international force. "It requires the establishment of the political independence of the working class. "And it requires a perspective that has as its aim not protesting to the capitalists, appealing to them to adopt a peaceful policy, but explaining to the working class that if they want to put an end to these horrors, if they want to secure the future, they have to conquer power." The WSWS and the SEP are systematically fighting to develop the political consciousness of the working class on the basis of the lessons of history.
