Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. These are the remarks delivered by Ulaş Ateşçi, a leading member of the Socialist Equality Group, prior to an interview with David North on Security and the Fourth International. The flight attendants' defiance has shattered the lie of "national unity," promoted by the Canadian ruling class and the trade union bureaucracy in response to trade war and threats to annex Canada. The leaders of the most powerful imperialist states in the world, including France, Germany, Italy and the UK, along with the heads of the EU and NATO, flew to Washington Monday on less than 24 hours' notice for crisis talks over the war in Ukraine. Trump is stepping up the militarization of US capital, with his top fascist adviser, Stephen Miller, supervising the command headquarters of the DC police. The California governor's fight over district lines is no defense of democracy but a ruling-class ploy, exposing the Democrats' complicity with Trump in austerity, repression and war. No progressive struggle can be taken up against the Israeli government without opposing the genocide which has so far claimed at least 61,000 Palestinian lives and threatens the remaining 2.1 million with starvation. It means rejecting the ethno-religious exclusion that forms the basis of the Israeli state. The Defence Department has admitted that 31 "active" export permits allow the sale of military-specific items to Israel, giving the lie to Labor's claims that it is not materially supporting the Gaza genocide. The IYSSE will be urging students at the meetings to take up a fight for the mobilisation of the working class against the Gaza genocide and the Labor government. Democratic Party politicians are not opposed to Trump's gestapo-style ICE raids; their main concern is the excessive use of force spurring public outcry against the bipartisan policies. Trump's "polluters' portal" marks a further step toward dismantling Clean Air Act protections, granting corporate exemptions that deepen environmental destruction at the direct cost of workers' lives and health. CUPE President Mark Hancock has made clear the union has no intention of turning the Air Canada strike into the springboard for a wider mobilization of the working class. His militant posturing is aimed at containing the struggle within the straitjacket of collective bargaining and the pro-employer Canada Labour Code. The strike is a challenge to the military-industrial complex and the two pro-imperialist parties, posing the need for a movement in the working class to put an end to the criminal US-backed wars. The Home Office announced that between July 20 and 27, 1,780 people were stopped and interrogated over suspected "illegal working activity". No "final statement" of agreement has been reached with the European Union and other countries that have accepted Trump's dictates as auto tariffs continue to cause "bleeding." In separate actions, petrochemical and milk processing workers took over factories in Argentina, while metalworkers at Gerdau Steel Company near São Paulo struck over deteriorating safety amid mass layoffs. The cuts include 115 workers at Harvester Works in East Moline, IL, on August 29; 71 at the Waterloo, IA, Foundry on September 19; and 52 at the Seeding and Cylinder facility in Moline, IL, on September 26. Notably absent from this month's government statement is any mention of genocide or the ethnic cleansing accompanying the planned takeover of the territory. In recent weeks, the rank-and-file Action Committee, Nurseries & Education, has been founded in Berlin to take up the fight against the ongoing deterioration of conditions for nursery and day-care centre workers, children and parents. The Colombia-Peru border dispute exposes how imperialist powers and local elites exploit nationalist chauvinism to suppress the class struggle. Spain's wildfires are not isolated events, but part of a wave of wildfires linked to global warming that is sweeping across southern Europe. Ryan Coogler's film combines monster-movie antics with a racialist interpretation of history.
