Dear reader, Here are the latest articles published today on the World Socialist Web Site. The Trump administration is slashing health agency budgets and firing vaccine experts as highly transmissible variants threaten to double daily infections within a month. Reports and images from Gaza prove that the fascist Israeli government of Netanyahu is systematically using starvation of children as a weapon of war in its campaign to ethnically cleanse the strip of Palestinians. Albanese's comments were part of an internationally coordinated shift in rhetoric, not in substance, from a number of imperialist powers that have been key backers of Israel. The investigation revealed a critical breakdown in the emergency response, bound up with the degradation of government services and the prioritisation of profit and the wealthy over mass social need. Trump did not deny he might pardon the convicted sex trafficker, likely in return for statements protecting him and damaging to his political opponents. This investigation, like the June 18 congressional inquiry into "research security" at U-Mich, promotes witch-hunting claims against Chinese scientists associated with the university. The World Socialist Web Site unequivocally condemns the vicious and life-threatening political witch hunt targeting Dr. Marta Havryshko, a scholar of the Nazi Holocaust. Millions of workers and youth see the need for a new party to challenge Labour. But this requires a revolutionary socialist and internationalist programme, not a Labour Party Mark II. The EU has agreed to a 15 percent tariff hit and to buy hundreds of billions of dollars' worth of energy products and military hardware from the US. The bitterly fought campaign reflects sharp infighting in Taiwanese ruling circles fuelled by the intensifying US-led drive to war against China, in which Taiwan is the central flashpoint. The low turnout reflects a lack of confidence in the union leadership, which sought to contain the struggle. Throughout the strike and after, the DSA's role was to provide left cover for the union leaders and the Democratic Party. A resident doctor in Leeds told WSWS reporters, "If the pillars of the NHS, the staff of the NHS, are not happy, are leaving, are burnt out, it's only going to have a domino effect, and things are going to start to crumble." Far from mobilising workers against this vicious offensive, the event was another token gesture, providing left-talking union officials with political cover while they preach conciliation with Labour. CEB workers confront a political struggle against the Dissanayake government's IMF-dictated restructuring and privatisation of state-owned enterprises. Everyone in Cloud is either a fraudster, a cynic, an opportunist or a psychopath. How accurate is that as a view of life in Japan, or anywhere else? Republican convention to ratifies Bush-Cheney ticket; Helsinki Accords signed by US, USSR; Belgian general strike ousts Leopold III; British government avoids miners' strike About the WSWS The World Socialist Web Site is published by the International Committee of the Fourth International, the world Trotskyist movement, and its affiliated sections in the Socialist Equality Parties around the world.
