Hello, Yesterday, in more than 2,000 cities and towns across the United States, millions took to the streets to oppose the Trump administration's fascistic assault on immigrants and its conspiracy to establish a presidential dictatorship. As Trump held his military parade that same day, the message from workers and youth was clear: The American people do not want dictatorship. But the development of popular opposition raises critical questions: What is the nature of the political crisis we are facing? Where did this government come from? What social forces are driving the attack on democratic rights? And above all, what must be done to stop it? These questions will be the subject of a major online meeting today, Sunday, June 15, at 4:00 p.m. EDT, hosted by the World Socialist Web Site and the Socialist Equality Party (US): Trump's coup and how to stop it. | Today's event will bring together a panel including: | - David North, chairman of the International Editorial Board of the WSWS
- Tom Carter, legal expert and writer for the WSWS
- Tom Mackaman, professor of history and specialist on American democracy and immigration
- Will Lehman, rank-and-file autoworker and former UAW presidential candidate
| I will be co-moderating the discussion alongside Johannes Stern, editor of the WSWS in Germany and a leader of the Sozialistische Gleichheitspartei (SGP). Johannes will help address the international significance and implications of the political crisis in the United States and its reverberations and echoes throughout the world. This meeting will examine the broader processes behind Trump's rise: the oligarchic domination of American society, the breakdown of democratic institutions, the complicity of the Democratic Party and trade union bureaucracy, and the global escalation of war—including Israel's strikes on Iran and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. I urge you: Register now, share the meeting link with friends, coworkers, classmates and family. This discussion is essential for anyone serious about defeating Trump's coup and fighting for a future based on equality and socialism. | | | We're powered by the support of our readers and workers.
